BenevolentAI is HQ’d in London with a research facility in Cambridge (UK) and further offices in New York and Antwerp. BenevolentAI has active R&D drug programmes from discovery to Phase IIb in disease areas such as ALS, Atopic dermatitis, Ulcerative Colitis and Sarcopenia.
We are looking for a lab based DMPK professional, preferably at principal scientist level (although we will consider a senior scientist looking to advance), with a good level of practical experience of ADME experiments, automation and LC-MS as well as interpreting results in a multi functional drug discovery project team environment.
Based at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge (UK), working with artificial intelligence, deep learning, informatics, biological sciences, drug discovery and clinical translation/commercialisation colleagues to devise creative ways to reimagine the way medicines are discovered.
The candidate will be working within a small lab based team supporting small molecule lead optimisation and development, as well as AI and machine learning driven target identification teams. The team are continually looking to challenge and improve laboratory designs and processes, and to engage with groups across the company to allow us to contribute fully to successful outcomes. The individual should have good communication skills, be able to advise teams on selection and interpretation of routine assays or alternatively, to design focussed experiments.
We’re looking for someone with…
A degree and preferably a PhD in chemistry, biology, pharmacology or related field of research or equivalent experience.
A good theoretical understanding of mass spectrometry, chromatography and physicochemical properties with practical expertise in troubleshooting and method development relevant to DMPK.
A passion for applying scientific expertise to problem solving and an ability to select the most appropriate studies to enable a fuller understanding of the disposition of a molecule. In particular, expertise in understanding drug metabolism is desired, to support projects in understanding IVIVC, metabolite identification and enzyme phenotyping as well as familiarity with standard ADME and PK study designs.
An aptitude for automated liquid handling systems such as Beckmann and Hamilton would be advantageous, and familiarity with database systems for reporting and sharing data with project teams (Dotmatics preferred).
Extensive experience within Lead Optimisation and ideally Preclinical Development as a DMPK representative, aware of regulatory guidelines, with experience of MIST analysis, pharmacokinetics and toxicokinetics as well as ideally safety pharmacology.
A proactive and positive problem solving mindset, confident to contribute strategically and implement ideas to drive assays, processes and targets forward. You should be comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic environment and on multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines, working closely with colleagues to schedule studies in-house and balancing with outsourcing external studies where required.
Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate with internal and external colleagues at all levels. You will be willing to share knowledge, connecting across functions and with more junior members of the team. There is also the opportunity to take on line management responsibilities.
A drive to keep up to date with advances in technology, literature, updates in industry best practice and regulatory guidance and to champion new initiatives.
