Production Software Engineer

The Role

The Production Software Engineer combine their software engineer experience and innate drive to improve existing systems and processes, seeking to automate wherever possible. The Production Software Engineer will provide input into which tools are best to use within the build and deployment environment e.g. Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Docker, Bamboo, Travis, Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS. Adopting a creative approach to automation at every step.

The Production Software Engineer will have a strong passion for automation using whatever tools are best for the job, assisting in the processing of large amounts of data, ensuring the Jenkins continuous integration process is optimised as effective as possible.

Production Engineer could be a Site Reliability Engineer, Build Deployment Engineer, DevOps Engineer working as a core team member working closely with the DevOps infrastructure team building the primary datacenter infrastructure and APIs that support our services. You will be supporting the complex IT infrastructure environment and adding your input (especially around automation) into such areas as sharded databases, scalable web services and interfaces to external data sources and APIs.

You will be joining our Agile development teams.  You will advocate high-quality engineering and best-practice in production software as well as rapid prototypes. You must be a strong communicator who can explain what is required to build and deliver great software products. You will be keen to work with the rest of the team and develop collaboratively.

You will promote test-driven-development and other Agile best-practices for ensuring the software is resilient enough for our scientists to rely upon.

You may also have a knack for related skills, in DevOps, algorithm design, machine learning and there may be opportunities to grow these other skills as part of your role if you so wish.
