Senior Product Designer

As a Product Designer, you’ll become a champion of user-centred design across Benevolent squads and products that will significantly impact patients' lives. Our platform includes tools and processes built on our data foundations, and used by everyone in the business from machine learning researchers, to biologists and chemists, to develop new and better medicines for patients. You have a passion for synthesising complex systems and diverse user needs into useful and lovable products. You will have practiced and executed on the design thinking that underpins platform development. You’re deeply curious about people, science and technology, and instinctively provide a conduit for knowledge, requirements and understanding within cross-functional teams, ensuring that the best solutions make it through to delivery. You’re a hands-on do-er.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Product Designer you will be expected to:

  • Apply user-centred design methods and inclusive design practices to understand business, scientific and technical requirements, and user needs, within a diverse and challenging environment

  • Foster a highly-collaborative process and environment, acting as a bridge when required to increase empathy between different groups e.g. ML researchers and drug discovery scientists

  • Embed, adapt and develop best practice in all aspects of product design, as required by the unique BenevolentAI environment and the specific challenges of our domain

  • Hands-on UX and UI design of a holistic design system, developing the BenevolentAI platform to a consistently high standard for brand, usability and impact on our business goals

  • Help inform product roadmaps by sharing requirements, data and qualitative insights from user research and testing, MVP releases and product iterations

  • Embrace lean and agile, sharing work early and often, including ‘unfinished’ work, consistently providing constructive feedback, and coaching others to do the same

  • Be autonomous, taking full ownership of your work and responsibility for every last detail, every step of your projects from concept, through to delivery and their evolution.

  • Provide day-to-day support to other members of the squad and team, coaching teams and individuals in relevant design activities and facilitating workshops, retros and other project sessions

What skills, experience, and qualifications do you need?

  • Proven track record as a Product or UX designer in a cross-functional, agile environment, involved in end-to-end product design activities, from concept to shipping a product

  • A well-developed design thinking toolkit and evidence of its successful application in product and platform development

  • Excellent skills in user research, low and high fidelity UX and UI design, prototyping and design documentation, including expertise with design and prototyping tools e.g. Sketch, Principle

  • Experience in platform development and design systems

  • Experience in designing life science products, ideally in biotech or pharma

  • Used to working with data: both metrics and data-as-content

  • Experience of using user research and other evaluation methods to iterate and improve existing products

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to articulate design solutions and present to product managers, developers and stakeholders

  • Experience in coaching and leading more junior designers

  • Passionate about working at the cutting edge of drug discovery
