BenevolentAI, founded in 2013, creates and applies AI technologies to transform the way medicines are discovered and developed. BenevolentAI seeks to improve patient’s lives by applying technology designed to generate better data decision making and in doing so lower drug development costs, decrease failure rates and increase the speed at which medicines are generated. The company has developed the Benevolent Platform™ - a discovery platform used by BenevolentAI scientists to find new ways to treat disease and personalise drugs to patients.
BenevolentAI is HQ’d in London with a research facility in Cambridge (UK) and further offices in New York and Antwerp. BenevolentAI has active R&D drug programmes from discovery to PhaseIIb in disease areas such as ALS, Parkinson’s, Ulcerative Colitis and Sarcopenia.
Data Science is at the heart of BenevolentAI, transforming our massive and complex biomedical data into valuable tools for drug discovery. As a Data Scientist, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams, applying your skills to rigorously understand and evaluate the quality of our data and algorithms, and building robust statistical frameworks and visualizations.
BenevolentAI is committed to growing diverse and inclusive teams. We welcome you to apply if the job description as a whole appeals, even if there are specific areas where you don’t have previous experience! We are hiring for all levels of experience, from entry-level to lead data scientists.
Grow and lead a small team of data scientists and/or software engineers.
Implement the computation and visualization of performance metrics.
Work with other functions (AI/ML, biomedical informatics, software engineering, drug discovery, etc.) to establish appropriate data quality controls, benchmarks, and meaningful model performance metrics.
Design and develop evaluation protocols and frameworks to test key success metrics for our data, pipelines, products, and solutions.
We’re looking for someone with...
Strong in at least one programming language (Python preferred).
Strong understanding of statistical methods for data curation and analysis.
Experience working with data science tools for manipulating and visualizing data (such as pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, etc.)
Good understanding in at least one of the following scientific domains:
molecular biology, genomics, chemistry
Team oriented, able to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment.
2 or more years of experience working as a data scientist in a product team.

Knowledge of biology / chemistry, and experience working with biomedical data.
Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, ideally with a focus on drug discovery.
Good software engineering practices (such as testing, version control, etc.)
Understanding of machine learning and/or distributed systems.
Experience working with data integration, text mining, and/or natural language processing.
Who are we?
We have assembled a diverse, exceptionally talented and spirited team to tackle the most pressing and challenging problems at the intersection of artificial intelligence and drug discovery. We bring our ideas and passion for new technology and medicine discover to life by questioning traditional scientific dogmas.
Our core values reflect who we are and how we work and they are so important to achieve our mission: Bring better medicine to patients faster.
Put patients first | Drive to delivery | Break boundaries | Own the solution.
