BenevolentAI is HQ’d in London with a research facility in Cambridge (UK) and further offices in New York and Antwerp. BenevolentAI has active R&D drug programmes from discovery to PhaseIIb in disease areas such as ALS, Parkinson’s, Ulcerative Colitis and Sarcopenia.
We are looking for a lab based DMPK professional, preferably at Senior Scientist level, with a good level of practical experience of ADME experiments, automation and LC-MS and ideally experienced in understanding the results in terms of application to a multi-functional drug discovery project team environment.
Based at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge (UK), working with artificial intelligence, deep learning, informatics, biological sciences, drug discovery and clinical translation/commercialisation colleagues to devise creative ways to reimagine the way medicines are discovered.
The candidate will be working within a small lab-based team supporting small molecule lead optimisation and development projects, as well as AI and machine learning driven target identification teams. The team are continually looking to challenge and improve laboratory designs, platform and processes, and to engage with groups across the company to allow us to contribute fully to successful outcomes. The individual should be enthusiastic and enjoy instrument troubleshooting, and resolution of assay problems. They have good communication skills and be proactive in helping drive effective optimisation of assay submission, processing and posting of results. They should be skilled and interested in running high quality routine assays and also in developing our assay platform to support projects efficiently.

A degree and preferably a PhD in chemistry or related field of research or equivalent experience.
A good theoretical understanding of the fundamentals of mass spectrometry, chromatography and physicochemical properties with practical expertise in and a flair for troubleshooting and method development relevant to DMPK.
A passion for applying scientific expertise to problem solving and a passion for developing robust instrument and data handling processes. Able to work as part of a team and individually to get workloads completed.
An aptitude for automated liquid handling systems such as Beckmann and Hamilton would be advantageous, and familiarity with database systems for reporting and sharing data with project teams (Dotmatics preferred).
A proactive and positive problem-solving mindset, confident to contribute strategically and implement ideas to drive assays, processes and targets forward. You should be comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic environment and on multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines, working closely with colleagues to schedule studies in-house and balancing with outsourcing external studies where required.
Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate with internal and external colleagues at all levels. You will be willing to share knowledge, connecting across functions and with more junior members of the team. There is also the opportunity to take on line management responsibilities as we look to develop our team.
